Cockburn Haigh Road Academy:
(3-7 infant school)
Close to Leeds and Wakefield, Cockburn Haigh Road Academy is situated in the friendly community of Rothwell. There has been a school on this site since the opening of Wood Lane Provided School in 1904 and the building combines the original Edwardian building that can be seen from Haigh Road, with more modern classrooms to the rear. They have specific outdoor areas for Nursery, Reception and Key Stage One, as well as a beautiful field to the rear of the school, which we use for a variety of reasons, including PE and outdoor learning.
Currently an infant school, they have two Key Stages; the Foundation Stage [ages 3-5yrs] and Key Stage 1 [ages 5-7yrs]. At present, children move on to Rothwell Victoria Junior School at the end of Year Two.
The Early Years staff ensure the children learn and achieve through a stimulating and play based curriculum. The provision of a wealth of learning experiences and opportunities, both inside and out create a foundation for future learning. The school prides itself on promoting a sense of community, where each individual feels happy, safe and cared for.
A holistic approach to education in its widest sense is at the forefront of their practice. Children trust their teachers and, in turn, their teachers encourage them to become enthusiastic and independent. Their ultimate goal is to empower children to become outstanding citizens who value and pay back into both their local and the wider community.
Formerly Rothwell Haigh Road Infant School, in 2019 the school converted to academy status and was renamed Cockburn Haigh Road Academy when it joined the Cockburn Multi-academy Trust.
